Replacing Gas-Fired Rooftop Heating Units with 350% Efficient Electric Air Source Heat Pumps

We’ve embarked on a multi-year program to replace over 340 gas-fired rooftop heating units, which require high levels of maintenance and not energy or environmentally efficient, with 350% efficiency electric heat pumps with backup gas heat.  Once complete, the project can expect to save the District up to $140,000 per year (2008$) in energy costs, over 800 tonnes of CO2 and $20,000 in carbon offsets.
